What started as a short presentation to her workplace, led to an entire day of running for Liv and two of her colleagues – and an outstanding $6,425 raised for MS research!
After sharing her experience of living with MS with her colleagues, Liv inspired workmates Dan and Scotty to join her in taking on The May 50K last year.
“It’s so important to do all we can to help with research into MS and as someone living with MS, there is never enough that can be done! I mentioned that The May 50K was coming up and if my colleagues wanted to get involved to ask me – that’s where it all began!”
Always keen to take on a challenge, the trio decided that completing 50 kilometres across the month of May wasn’t challenging enough and instead decided to complete the distance in just one day. Dan and Scotty – both avid long-distance runners – were the instigators of this incredibly ambitious goal and persuaded Liv to do the distance outside of their office building.
“They said they had an idea on how to really make an impact on the May 50K and it was rather than run 50 kilometres over the month of May, to do it in one day – therefore running 235 laps of our office block to raise awareness and funds for a much needed invisible illness. From there, the idea was born and on that Friday in May, we ran those exhausting laps, wearing our MS t-shirts, creating a hell of a lot of noise and fun!”
Cheered on by over 60 colleagues, and with some staff members also joining them for several laps throughout the day, the trio crossed the finish line on 31st May. Liv’s workplace was incredible and allowed the three runners to be away from their work for the day and supported them in everything they asked for to enable them to take part in this fundraising activity.
“The May 50K is a great initiative to raise funds for vital MS research and to get fit at the same time – what more could you want! Almost a year on from the day I am still lost for words when I talk about the event, I was absolutely blown away by the involvement and generosity displayed by my workplace as well as clients, reps and complete strangers.”
