Brain atrophy is the shrinking of the brain, everyone’s brain starts to shrink by the time they are 30, it is a normal part of ageing but in MS this can be accelerated.

Brain atrophy is probably a good indicator of disease activity however, the MRI technology required to measure brain atrophy is not yet widely available in clinical practice.
