MS Research Australia recognised with Outstanding Achievement Award 2020

MS Research Australia has been recognised for Outstanding Achievement (OAA) by The Australian Charity Awards in 2020.

“MS Research Australia is extremely proud to have been awarded Outstanding Achievement in The Australian Charity Awards. This is the fifth time we have been recognised for our innovation, transparency, and dedication to finding a cure for MS.”

“This award primarily recognised our most successful fundraising initiative, The May 50K – a virtual, peer to peer community fundraising campaign that calls on supporters to run or walk 50km throughout the month of May whilst raising life-changing funds for research into MS.”

“Despite the many challenges faced by the charitable sector at large this year, The May 50K fundraising campaign raised an incredible $6.75 million for life-changing MS research. This incredible effort will accelerate our mission to fund more research into the prevention, better treatments and ultimately a cure for MS,” said Associate Professor Desmond Graham, Chair MS Research Australia.

The Australian Charity Awards, now in their eighth year, were established to identify, recognise and reward organisations for the exceptional work undertaken through their charitable activities. The Australian Charity Awards are a partner program of The Australian Business Awards.

“The 2020 Australian Charity Awards have recognised thirteen organisations for their contributions and achievements in the management of programs, projects and services that improve people’s lives,” said Ms Tara Johnston, Program Director.

“Australia’s charitable sector has been hit hard by COVID-19 this year, including unprecedented fundraising and operational challenges. Despite this, many charities are showing resilience during this difficult time, by adopting an innovative working approach to ensure that they can carry on their important work – now and in the future.

“The awards exist to highlight charities that adopt a culture of innovation as the sector seeks to transform in response to COVID-19 and continue to provide fundamental support and services to millions of Australians,” Ms Johnston added.

About the Awards

The Australian Charity Awards provide organisations with the opportunity to raise the awareness of their important causes by having their projects, initiatives, contributions and achievements recognised through a national recognition program.

The program is open to charitable organisations including charitable funds and charitable institutions operating in Australia. Charitable institutions include Public Benevolent Institutions and Health Promotion Charities.

Entrants are required to demonstrate the execution of innovative, well-managed, high-performing charitable initiatives. The World Business Awards Framework is utilised as a structured model of assessment that enables the participating organisations to be benchmarked against world class performance standards.

The Australian Charity Award for Outstanding Achievement (OAA) culminating in an overall winner for Charity of the Year (CHY) honour the dedication and achievements of charitable organisations and the measurable impact of their initiatives.
